The destination is always a beautiful one on a hiking holiday in Gastein. Keep your eyes peeled because there's plenty to be discovered along the way. Herbs, flowers, now and then a marmot will greet you. On higher terrain, you might even spot a chamois, and in autumn, the deer in all their glory. In Gastein, you will experience nature first hand.

Incidentally: Gastein is one of eleven regions in Austria to have been awarded the Austrian Hiking Seal. We believe it is well-deserved!

The BLÃœsider hiking tips:

Hikers on the mountain

No.1

From the Hüttenkogel to the Graukogel

After a leisurely ascent with the rustic retro two-seater chairlift, this tour starts at the mountain station of the Graukogel lift. With beautiful views of the valley, the path leads up to the Hüttenkogel in serpentine fashion; the hike takes about an hour. From there, you have a view of the entire Gastein Valley and the big brother of the Hüttenkogel, the Graukogel. The trail up there leads over the ridge. It is only recommended for experienced mountain enthusiasts, as sure-footedness and a head for heights are called for here.

Twilight over mountain panorama

No.2

Sunrise on theon the Dorfgastein Rauchkögerl

The hiking trail to the Rauchkögerl starts in the Unterberg district of Dorfgastein. The hike partly covers forest paths and forest roads up to the Dreiwaller Chapel. Be sure to take a break here and admire the views. Afterwards, continue through the forest in the direction of "Kögerl" where you also have a great view of the neighbouring valleys. Our tip: Start your hike early in the morning. Sunrise at the Kögerl is the most wonderful start to a holiday!

Hikers on the mountain

No.3

A ridge walkabove Dorfgastein

After taking the gondola on the Fulseckbahn lift in Dorfgastein, the hike starts to the north, directly on the ridge. The signposted trail leads slightly downhill, past signposted power spots that invite you to recharge your batteries. Continue to the Artörl, an old crossing between the Gastein and Grossarl valleys. Here the signposted trail leads past rustic Alpine pastures back to the middle station and down into the valley.

Trail run paradise Gastein: On the trail of the world champions

Shaped by the Adidas Infinite Trail World Championships, Gastein has made a prominent name for itself in the trail run scene in recent years. There are two signposted trail routes here: One leads up to the Poserhöhe (not only for posers!) and up to the Gamskarkogel. Incidentally, this route was part of the Adidas Infinite Trails, so you are virtually running on World Champion ground here.
